What a cooperation looks like: Long Monsters

An ii.coop initiative. You don't need paperwork to cooperate. A cooperation starts when people show up and do the work together, then keep showing up.

developing.coop helps people work together beyond the usual corporate boxes: nonprofits (501(c)(3)s), associations (501(c)(6)s), small businesses, and groups with no paperwork at all. We call what they build cooperations.

Here's what one looks like.

A Saturday at Longmont Public Media

On 17 October 2026, Longmont Theatre Company's Stages Academy ran a sold-out Zombie Film Lab at Longmont Public Media. Christopher directed. Erica played a TV news anchor. A pack of kids in candy-coloured zombie makeup became the monsters. Heather May organised it, and we came to help: running sound, slating takes, and taking pictures.

The film is a Halloween short about a strange new virus spread by too much trick-or-treat candy. The anchor reads the breaking news, eats a little too much candy herself, and wakes up in a black-and-white nightmare where the kids of Longmont have become little monsters.

Why it's a cooperation

No one signed a contract. A theatre company, a public-media station, a director, an actress, families and a few volunteers each brought something, and an afternoon later there was a film. Nobody owns it; everyone made it.

After the shoot we gathered everything (audio from every take, behind-the-scenes video and photos, a ready-to-edit project) and handed it back to the people who made it. That's the kind of infrastructure developing.coop is for: websites, lists, files and media that stay with the group that made them.

Long Monsters

We started calling them Long Monsters: Longmont, plus monsters. It's a people group of our own, and the first thing we're developing together. Families and friends can join at longmonsters.developing.coop.
